Introduction

This policy explains what the Estopia Sparx browser extension, made by Estopia Engineering Ltd, collects when you use it, where that data goes and what you can do about it. Estopia Sparx is not made by or affiliated with Sparx Learning.

What we collect

  • Your Estopia account. When you sign in, the extension receives your username, profile picture and token balance from Estopia Identity, and a sign-in token for your account. It does not receive your email address.
  • Questions. For each question it answers, the extension sends the question text and links to the question's images to our API at api.estopia.net.
  • Corrections. When Sparx accepts an answer you submitted, or you edit a saved answer, the extension sends the question, its image links and that answer to us, linked to your account.
  • Usage records. Each request is logged against your account with the time, whether it succeeded, the model used and how long it took, and tokens are deducted from your balance.

We do not collect your Sparx password, your browsing history or anything from other websites. The extension reads your first name from Sparx to show it on the page; it is not sent to us.

How it's used and shared

  • Answering questions. If we already hold an answer to a question, we return it. If not, our server fetches the question's images and sends them with the question text to Google's Gemini AI service to produce one. Google receives the question, not your account details.
  • Shared answers. Answers, including corrections sent by users, are stored with a short preview of the question and reused for everyone who uses the extension. A correction replaces an answer once enough different users have sent the same one, and our team can review them.
  • Billing and abuse. Usage records are used to charge tokens and to spot misuse.

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

On your device

Your sign-in tokens, basic account details and your own saved answers are kept in the browser's extension storage. Signing out from the extension's popup, or removing the extension, deletes them.

Permissions

  • Access to *.sparx-learning.com, *.sparxmaths.uk and *.sparxmaths.com: to read the questions on the page and show answers.
  • Access to api.estopia.net: to sign you in, check your balance and get answers.
  • Storage: to keep you signed in and save your answers.
  • Identity: to open the Estopia sign-in window and receive your sign-in token.

Keeping and deleting data

We keep your account, usage records and corrections while your Estopia account is open. You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. Shared answers hold no account details, so they stay after an account is deleted.

Children

Sparx is used by school pupils. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian before you create an Estopia account or buy tokens.
